Travel journal: Kauai and Oahu

Intro and Itinerary

View along Na Pali Coast
View along Na Pali Coast
We spent 8 days in Kauai and 2 in Oahu in June, 2001. Here's a journal of our experiences. The highlights were kayaking on the Wailua and Hanalei Rivers, hiking the Na Pali coast, and horseback riding at the Esprit de Corps Stables. We also enjoyed our visit to the USS Arizona and USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor, and we were glad we drove around Oahu away from Waikiki, which is a bit like a Hawaiian Las Vegas. It rained nearly every day on Kauai, sometimes heavily, which apparently is unusual for June, but we managed to have fun anyway. We were quite happy with our condo in Kauai, the Wailua Bay View condos, which was nicely furnished and conveniently located, for a good price. There were a couple of things we would not recommend, namely the Fern Grotto in Wailua, Kauai, and the Hawaii Polo Inn in Waikiki, Oahu (whose website makes it look deceptively nice).

The following is our itinerary:
